No, this is not a podcast about my dog’s reproductive organs or lack thereof. It’s about his mystical relationship with the balls that he considers the optimum toy at least 90% of the time.
Above you see a picture of Ollie’s balls, spanning the spectrum from well-loved grungy to hardly-worth-a-second-glance pristine new with one rather bedraggled one in the middle. The two on the left carry a particular emotional charge with him, but the new one will remain neutral until it acquires enough wear, tear, spit, and who knows what else to satisfy him. And as the podcast reveals, like any relationship with a loved one, that charge may wax and wane over time.
Yet another example of a behavior I’m sure makes perfectly good sense to Ollie that so far lies beyond my comprehension. But perhaps he feels the same way about some of the things I covet too.
