Episode 219 – Animal Nutrition Update

This podcast recaps some points of interest I gleaned from a veterinary nutrition seminar I attended in October. It began well in that, unlike the last October seminar I signed up for, it wasn’t rescheduled because of a massive snowstorm. It also reiterated information I’d learned from other sources and introduced some new data I was glad to add to my knowledge base. Quality communication has been added to “Increased exercise, fewer calories” litany for getting the excess weight off that ever-growing—literally and figuratively!—population of overweight companion animals. Yet once again any role the use of treat-training might play in obesity is side-stepped as deftly as the profession used to side-step the negative effects of spay and neuter in the past. This disappointed but didn’t really surprise me given the politics surrounding that practice (too).

The site I mentioned for those considering or actually preparing home-cooked food for their animals is www.BalanceIt.com  While this  information is invaluable for those cooking for healthy animals, for those cooking for animals with medical problems, the information available here is priceless.
