The computer where I edit my podcasts is on a desk beneath two windows with a view of the area in front of the house. As I looked out the windows I realized that a variation on the theme of reverse gentrification described in this podcast also occurs in more rural settings too.
In the almost 30 years I’ve lived here, wild animals have moved closer. All kinds of plants, shrubs, and trees–some planted, others that just moved in–dramatically have changed the landscape.

Particularly in the spring there are days when everything grows so enthusiastically, I believe the plants and wild animals could take over this place in a remarkably short time if I weren’t here to maintain the domestic-wild interface. It’s a humbling thought.
