brindle.thumbnailAnyone who follows the purebred animal scene knows that their increased number of mutations doesn’t bode well for the physical and mental health of certain breeds.  But while mutations  orchestrated by humans do have a tendency to backfire over time, genetic pile-ups aren’t a human-made invention. There are many examples of this same approach occurring in wild animal populations too.  In all of these cases, it’s even possible to say that the benefits of these as well as those imposed on domestic animals may exceed the cost to the species or breed.
